People at Assin Dansame, a community in the Central Region, are reportedly agitated following the exhumation of a corpse there on Monday.

Reports say one Kojo Emma was buried in the community on Monday, June 26, but hours later, the chief there, Nana Twum Barima V, ordered that his body be exhumed. The chief is reported as saying that Emma did not contribute to communal labor while he was alive and that he had not business being buried in the community.

The corpse is said to have been left by the side of the road for over six hours, before some residents took it to the community center.

Police are negotiating with the chief and leaders in the area for the body to be re-buried, according to a report by Accra based Citi FM.

Residents are said to be angered by the presence of the body, which they say has caused them severe trauma. Some of them are said to have expressed fear that the exhumation of the corpse could trigger some spiritual consequences from the gods.

On social media, several Ghanaians condemned the development, which they said was akin to life in the jungle.

"Primitive life a whole king should leave it there for one week and see how the area will be," a Facebook user,

Nana Yaw, said. "They should have taken it to the chief's palace. Maybe he wanted to fry the body,"

another Facebook user, Benjamin Baffour, also wrote. Na wa o!
